Workshop Abstract: What is a Field? Why are fields important in physics? In this workshop participants will see how several hands-on activities can be done by students completing remote or in person learning to develop an understanding of what a field is and what is meant by fields being real. The strengths and weaknesses of models and analogies will be developed. The session will also include the analysis of a magnetohydrodynamic apparatus, with a STEM or Engineering challenge of how to make the apparatus better.

The Fields classroom resource was designed by educators in collaboration with Perimeter Institute researchers to engage high school students in the process of building scientific models.
