Jumping Shampoo
Students observe a teacher-led demonstration of the Kaye Effect: when a thin stream of shampoo is drizzled from a height of 15-20 cm, a puddle will build up, and periodically a streamer of shampoo will erupt from the puddle. Students are challenged to make observations during the demonstration and develop a model or explanation for why the streamers happen. After discussing as a class, students refine and improve their models.
