What is Producing Radiation in the Constellation Cygnus?
In this activity, students investigate the observations made by astronomers in the constellation Cygnus and realize for themselves that the X-ray source must be a black hole. The activity involves numerous curriculum concepts such as universal gravitation, gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, electromagnetic radiation, the particle nature of light and uniform circular motion.
Intended Audience: Senior High (Gr 11-12)
Lesson Topics: Astronomy, Black Holes, Circular Motion, Energy, Gravity
